Easter Season at CCoE

white lilyWe at the Congregational Church of Excelsior have four special services during the Easter Season—the Ash Wednesday service, the Palm Sunday service, the Maundy Thursday service, and the Easter morning service. Each has its own special feel and content. Please plan on being with us at as many of these as possible. We'd love to have you.

Christmas Season at CCoE

IMG 1899The Christmas season at the Congregational Church of Excelsior in 2017 was exciting, as always. On Sunday, December 17, the Chancel Choir, joined by our youth, presented Candles & Carols: A Service of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love, a cantata by Mark Hayes. The kids did Christmas readings interspersed with familiar yet unique sounds of the season, some of which the congregants joined in on, all of this in our beautifully decorated sanctuary. Lydia Holsten, director of music, and Janet Holler, interim director of Christian education, put together the wonderful program.

Then on Christmas Eve, the morning worship service at 10 a.m. was supplemented with a candlelight service at 4 p.m. Large candles added to the ambience of the sanctuary throughout the service, and we ended by awaiting the arrival of the Christ child in only candlelight.

Beyond the church services, we gave to the community during the season through a mitten tree, laden with warm winter items that went to Sharing and Caring Hands, a gift card drive yielding 50 Target cards for local at-risk teenswho receive spiritual and emotional support through Tree House, and donations of canned vegetables and fruits for ICA, our local food shelf.

It was truly a season of giving and love.

Harvest Dinner a Success

Our annual fall harvest dinner was held Saturday, November 11, at 5 pm. Appetizers and cider accompanied bidding at our silent auction and shopping at our newly added store. When bidding closed, dinner, cooked by Chef Ross Rogney and his helpers, was served. This event, as always, was a fun-filled event and added to our church coffers.

Chamber Music

The Congregational Church of Excelsior hosted a free afternoon concert by the Arietta Ensemble on Sunday, October 15, 2017. Featured were former and present members of the Minnesota Orchestra: Marilyn Zupnick (2nd from right in photo) and Mark Seerup (2nd from left) on oboe, Mary Jo Gothmann (left) on harpsichord, and J. Christopher Marshall (right) on bassoon. They performed a lovely selection of music by Mozart, Handel, and more. These marvelously talented musicians have graced us with their presence several times before, and we are grateful for the lovely, relaxing afternoon they provided.Save
